I cast all my cares upon you
I lay all of my burdens down at your feet
And any time I don’t know what to do
I will cast all my cares upon you
STEFFANY GRETZINGER
I was overwhelmed. The strike had been on for 3 months already. This meant that all my routines, plans and systems had to be re-arranged. I mean, I had virtually everything planned out. From my quiet time with God, to studying school books, to blogging, e.t.c. They were all frustrated because of the change of environment and routines. “Okay fine! It’s just a little change. I can work with this“, I said to myself.
So I tried to go with the new wave. Guess what? It swept me off my feet.

The thing is, I tried doing it on my own. You probably know how that turned out. I was overwhelmed by everything that was going on. I was desperately in need of rest but I ran away from the only place I knew to find it . . .
Can you relate? Do you find yourself watching more movies, spending more time on social media, sleeping more just to feel better? I bet they haven’t given you rest.
Well, God is very intentional about you. You want to know how I know that? He sent you this post at this time and He wants to help you (check Isaiah 41:10).
4 practical steps to take when you’re feeling weary
(1) Retreat. The only place you can find true rest and refreshing for your soul is in God’s presence. The movies, TikTok videos and sleeping for long hours won’t give you what you seek. I know praying is the least thing you feel like doing right now. You might not have the words but just talk to God. Retreat to God’s presence. Say something. Turn your worries and heavy heart to God in prayer and leave them there. Journal. Cry if you need to.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
MATT. 11:28-30 MSG
(2) Reflect. When things like this happen, it’s very likely that you begin to doubt. You might doubt that you can ever find rest. Here’s what you can do —reflect on God’s faithfulness. Think on the good things He has done for you. Open your journal and go through your writings over time. Reading and thinking on the things He has done before encourages you. It helps you believe that He will prove Himself true again. This is one of the benefits of journaling.
“And you shall remember [always] all the ways which the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, so that He might humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart (mind), whether you would keep His commandments or not.”
DEUT. 8:2 AMP
(3) Re-strategize. Oh well! Change can be a reason you feel weary. You might have no clue of the reason too. Whatever the case may be, re-strategize. Re-strategizing can be very beneficial as it helps put you on the right track. Not just re-strategizing, but doing it with the help of the Holy Spirit. Do it with Him so you don’t end up frustrated again.
“Commit your works to the Lord [submit and trust them to Him], And your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance].”
PROV. 16:3 AMP
(4) Rest. Now that you’ve turned your burdens and worries to God, reflected on His faithfulness and re-strategized, just rest. God will take care of you.

You see, being weary is something that is bound to happen. GOD is not even shocked at the fact that you feel how you feel. He wants to help you. Run to the only person that can help you.
You’re probably curious as to how my story ended. Well, I heeded to God’s call to come and rest. I retreated, reflected, re-strategized and rested in His arms. I let Him carry me (and she lived happily ever after. . .)
He wants you to come and rest too. All you need is Him and only Him can truly satisfy you. That is why those movies and hours of scrolling through TikTok isn’t filling. The rest you seek is in Christ. Come and Drink!
