“If only my words were written in a book – better yet, chiseled in a stone!”

JOB 19:23 MSG

On a beautiful Monday morning, I picked up my pen and journal to write.

P.S: I love journaling at night.

I was thanking GOD for the gift of life and all. Suddenly, the Holy Spirit reminded me of a Scripture I had read earlier in Proverbs. It was basically about how wise people loved correction and embraced it readily. The evening before, my Mom had corrected me about something I did and I wasn’t having it. I literally walked around ‘righting the wrong‘ with a long face on. She pointed out the fact that I had been doing that recently. I tried to deny it LOL.

So, the Holy Spirit was convicting my heart that moment. I was broken (not in tears though) but I was cut to the heart. I apologized to Him and asked for grace to do better. Then He said, “Don’t be surprised when you start getting corrected for everything. I am only helping you build a better attitude.” I was wowed. I literally snapped my fingers and wrote it down in my journal too . . .

Snaps fingers!

In my last post, I shared some tips you will find useful in your journey to journaling. I got a lot of positive feedbacks on it which I shared on Gloryinspires IG page. So, yes! You guessed right as this is a sequel post. In this post, I will be sharing some benefits of journaling with you. If you haven’t already read my previous post on journaling, click here so you don’t get lost.

Let’s dive in !

Benefits of Journaling

  • Allows you to reflect on your day: this is very true for me. Journaling helps you look back at your day and you might just find GOD-incidences while at it. It could also be that you look back and see that you could have responded to a particular situation differently. (Check Ps. 63:6)
  • Helps build intimacy with GOD: just like constant communication builds any relationship, so does journaling. You spend time with GOD and communicate with Him but this time, in writing. He in turn speaks back to you. Journaling helps you communicate freely with GOD, as long as you are sincere though.
  • Opportunity to write down illuminations: there are times the Holy Spirit inspires you. It may be like He did in the instance I shared earlier. He could impress a word on your heart. Or maybe in prayer, while studying The Word or even doing casual activities. He might show you something important in a dream or send a word of prophecy to you. You are 99.9% likely to forget what He said but writing it down prevents that from happening.
  • Keeps track record of God’s goodness: ‘Low‘ times can be very sad and depressing. You might even lose sight of God’s faithfulness. Writing down ways God has come through for you in your journal on good days serve as great reference on your bad days. In your low times, your journal becomes more like an archive where you reach in to bring God’s faithfulness to remembrance. (Check Deut. 8:2)
  • Enables you to stand firm on God’s Word for your life: we all have different purposes and GOD, our Master planner has different plans for you and I. As a result, He sends us His Word – a personalized Word. This Word is specific to us and is to keep us going and pressing on as we fulfill His divine plan for our lives. (Check Hab 2:2-3) I intentionally said, “as we fulfill His divine plan” because sometimes, the journey is the destination.
  • It forms part of your story: you have gone through life and experienced so many things. You may have had highs and lows. Or periods of doubt and if you are like me, probably things you did but now that you think of it, you would have done them differently. Journaling lets you write down these experiences and allows you share them later on as led by the Holy Spirit. You might be led to share to your children or a group of people you’ve been called to nurture as a guide. Those experiences then become a part of your story and journaling helps you keep them intact. (Check Deut. 29:29)

You need no more persuasion dear friend. Get yourself a journal and start to write down those moments that will make history. May I remind you that you do not need to have some superb writing skills or be eloquent. Just write! After all, it is between you and GOD and trust me, He loves how you write.

Wow! You’re doing a great job!

Oh! When you start your journey, I’ll love to know. You can leave me an e-mail @gloryinspires2018gmail.com.

Conclusion

Journaling isn’t a compulsory thing as a believer. So the fact that you don’t journal or buy the idea of it doesn’t make you weird. It is a recommended way to express yourself to GOD in writing though. So if there are other ways you find more effective, why not?

I know you’ve been inspired so don’t hesitate to share this post. Please leave me a comment too and I will love to know any other benefit you enjoy from Journaling. You know I always love to hear from you so, see you in the comment section.

Journaling is sometimes not easy, the moment you hold your pen to write everything vanishes before you……. You can sha solve this problem by making a voice note on your phone and using it as a basepoint.

    A really insightful topic, well-done

This Reminds me of back then when I loved Journaling. Whenever I stumble on my previous journals, it reminds me of where I am coming from. I think I need to start this up again.

As the popular saying goes that ‘a faint pencil is better than the sharpest memory’ keeping journals helps us to have an inventory of our life activities in black and white where we can refer to them for encouragement and support in times of need. This is a fantastic job. Gid bless you.
