“She is His; she is you.
She is not defined by words, words used to hold her down,
cage her vitality and beauty,
keep her from becoming all that is in her DNA to be…“
JENNY ERLINGSSON – author of Becoming His: Finding Your Place As a Daughter of GOD.
Ada was the first child of her parents. She had 2 siblings, Ikenna and Amara. They had lived in Owerri, Nigeria all their lives. Owerri was a place with people that had various belittling ideologies about women. Ada grew up hearing phrases like “a woman’s place is in the kitchen and the other room“, “a woman is meant to serve the man“, “a woman should not speak when men are present”, “a woman is to be seen and not heard“…
Ada was in the living room with her siblings one afternoon. She was telling them about her plans to become a Human Rights Activist in the future. Ikenna laughed really hard and said, “Stop dreaming Ada! You’ll only end up in your husband’s house when you’re done with secondary school.” Well, could you blame Ikenna? He had been infused with these wrong ideologies. Her dad overheard the conversation and said, “Stop saying nonsense Ada! You better start preparing yourself for your husband to be“
For some time now, women have been treated as second-class citizens as opposed to men. They have been unjustly held back from being educated, taking leadership roles and confined mostly to domestic duties.
Some women have been sexually violated which has led to psychological trauma, insecurity, low self-esteem and depression. A lot of women walk around with the identity society handed to them.
Compared to other cultures of the time , some Jewish women enjoyed great liberty and esteem in their society. They stood out as prophetesses and leaders in their society. I’m talking about women such as Deborah, Esther and Abigail. Some women did not necessarily have leadership positions, or should I say, some of them were not at the frontline. They still made great impact and serve as inspiration to many of us today. Women like Ruth, Mary Magdalene, Sarah and Rahab influenced their world. These women shifted from zero to hero so to say.
You are no different from these women. Like these women, you may be privileged to be at the frontline and you might just be a “regular” woman. Whichever one you are, you can still have great influence on the people around you. Your purpose as a woman is not restricted to being at the frontline. Your purpose as a woman should not be limited by your seemingly “regular” life either. Your purpose as a woman is not to be inferior.
“The LORD God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
GEN. 2:18 NIV
This verse of Scripture has often been misunderstood. Some people imply that this verse places the woman as inferior and irrelevant in the society.
The Woman is not inferior in any way to the Man. She is called to complement him.
“She was made like no other but for another, not as a problem to be handled but as a solution, as an answer.”
JENNY ERLINGSSON – author of Becoming His: Finding Your Place As a Daughter of GOD.
You are not what society calls you.
Dear Woman, you are not weak, useless or inferior.
YOUR REALITY AS A WOMAN
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”
EPH. 2:10 NLT
- YOU ARE GOD’S MASTERPIECE!
- YOU ARE LOVED!
- YOU ARE FORGIVEN!
- YOU ARE CHOSEN!
- YOU ARE VALUABLE TO GOD AT ALL TIMES!
- WOMAN, YOU WERE MADE TO RECEIVE WORDS FROM ABBA AND ENGRAIN THEM IN YOUR OFFSPRING!
- YOU WERE MADE TO PASS GOD’S LOVE FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION!
- YOU ARE GOD’S GIRL!
If you grew up in a society that looks down on women, it is not over for you. To get rid of these ideologies, you need to constantly renew your mind with the Word of God. (Rom. 12 :1)
Conclusion
Our world is in dire need of women. The world needs you! The world needs us in every sphere of life. It needs us at the frontline and ‘behind the scenes’ to make a difference.
Like Deborah, you are to arise and take your place. Like Rahab, you are to let go of your past mistakes and let God use your story for His glory. Like Abigail, you are to use your God-given abilities to change any atmosphere. Like Mary Magdalene, you are to overpower the darkness trying to overshadow you and set other women battling with darkness free.
I know you have been inspired by this post. Don’t hesitate to share with other women.
