When I was younger, my parents taught me kindness. My Dad told me, “Be Kind!” My mom echoed it in other words. She always said “Do to others what you want them to do to you.”

Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.

Luke 6:31 AMP

Kindness is simply treating others the way you want to be treated. It really can not be restricted to just one perfect definition but I think the one below captures the whole idea.

“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.

Matthew 7:12 NLT

This beautiful definition is that kindness is the sincere and voluntary use of one’s time, talent, and resources to better the lives of others, one’s own life, and the world through genuine acts of love, compassion, generosity, and service.

Kindness is love serving others.

DEREK PRINCE

Kindness could be expressed in words but more often expressed in actions.

You’re going to church and on your way, you meet someone carrying a heavy load. You could stop and help the person with it.

The world has enough troubles already so when that man who lost his way walks up to you to ask for directions, no need to ignore him. Politely respond and you might just ease him of the stress of his day .

Jesus is the true definition of kindness. I mean, He healed the sick, fed hungry people, gave to the needy and so on. He literally showed us an example of what He wants us to do and how He wants us to act towards everyone around us. He showed us how to put GOD’s love in us into action.

So, help the elderly cross the road , give to the needy, volunteer, pray for people. In this way, you’re expressing and extending GOD’s love to them and thereby glorifying Him.

There are times, your acts of kindness won’t be repaid. In fact, it won’t be repaid 80% of the time.

Tayo had Dan as his roommate who he always gave money whenever he said he was broke. Tayo never refused to give him money and Dan never delayed in paying back. Then, just this one time Tayo needed money urgently, Dan refused to help him meanwhile, he had the money.

This is to show to you that sometimes, kindness is not being repaid. It should not make you relent in doing good though.

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

Galatians 6:9 NLT

Remember, Kindness is treating others the way you want to be treated. This is the GOLDEN RULE!

I know you’ve been inspired. Have you done an act of kindness recently? I will like to hear about it so please, leave me a comment. Please share with as many people as possible too.
