Do whatever makes you happy! A harmless statement don’t you think?
Well, many of the things that are wrong or seem ‘right’ are most times subtle. They don’t come in your face and be like :
“Hey! I’m that guy you were warned about!” The devil has always and will always have a degree in subtlety. He won’t bring these things in a way that you’ll recognize them. Are you in doubt? Then, ask Eve (Gen. 3).
Thank God that we are not ignorant of the devil’s devices though .
The ‘Do what makes you happy’ culture is actually toxic. Just like everything else in the world is. Though it seems ‘right’ and harmless, you want to tread carefully . Here’s why:
You can rationalize it all you want and justify the path of error you have chosen, but you’ll find out in the end that you took the road to destruction.
Proverbs 14:12 TPT
In case you didn’t notice, the Scripture above is the first reason so please reread that. Another reason you want to be careful is because since I was born, and now I am getting old, I have never seen anywhere in Scriptures where we are commanded to do what makes us happy. Have you seen? If you have, please don’t hesitate to engage in a conversation below in the comment box or better still, send an email.
As Christians we are told to do things that make God happy. Things such as shining our light so bright that it illuminates the world and makes God proud of us and glorified.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16 NIV
Let me ask you this quick question :
What happens when what makes you ‘happy’ makes God sad? (you might want to read that again)
In secondary school, my Principal was fond of admonishing us every morning on the assembly ground. He’d say: “Don’t do what I won’t do! “
So, like my Principal, I’m admonishing you: DON’T DO WHAT JESUS WON’T DO!
P. S: Feel free to picture me saying this only, not as my school Principal.
Now, don’t get me wrong! I’m not telling you to go on living a sad life. Far from it! What I’m saying is you should always crosscheck those things that make you happy with what God wants you to do. Ask yourself questions like : Does God want me to do this? Is God going to be happy if I do this? Will God actually be proud of me?
If the answer to all these is no, then you should not be doing it.
Once again, I know this is an unpopular opinion but it’s not so fun saying popular stuff anymore, is it?
I hope you were inspired. If you were, please share with your loved ones and on your favourite social media platforms. Also, subscribe to Gloryinspires so you are notified when I publish new content. Leave a comment too as I always love to hear from you.
