A long time ago, in a far far away kingdom, there lived an old man who had a big belly, white wooly beards, round spectacles and a good heart …
But we’re not talking about him today. He’s not the reason for this blog series…
It’s that time of the year! It’s Christmas season people ! My favourite holiday and probably yours too. A lot of us celebrate Christmas but don’t really know what it’s about. Christmas to a lot of people is a holiday where every house, office and shop is painted red and green. Sparkling lights all around. You hear children asking if Santa would be coming with gifts because they did all good through the year.
All these are not false but Christmas is a whole lot deeper than the presents, sparkling lights and even Santa. There is a story behind it. Let’s retell the story :
A long time ago, in a far far away town called Bethlehem, a baby was born. His name was to be called Emmanuel, Wonderful and other names just like people nowadays have numerous names. He was mostly called Jesus. A lot of prophecies had been spoken about baby Jesus . It was prophesied that He will save, deliver, restore the whole world, bring Peace on earth amongst others. Just like every other word that comes out of the mouth of God and doesn’t fall to the ground, this too came to pass…
so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11 NIV

After His birth, an angel appeared to some shepherds to deliver the good news. At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God’s praises: Glory to God in the heavenly heights, Peace to all men and women on earth who please him. (Luke 2:13-14 MSG)
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
Romans 5:1 NLT
We celebrate Christmas every 25th of December to mark the birth of Jesus Christ. We celebrate Christmas because Christ’s birth gave us peace with God. Christ’s birth brought a new era of love like never before. An era of peace and reconciliation with God.
So, beyond the Christmas traditions of red and green stockings, Santa and the surplus food ; actually be grateful for what Christ did. Celebrate Christmas this year with an understanding that it’s not just a holiday but marks the start of a life-changing experience.
Because of Him, we have peace!
This is what Christmas is all about (or at least part of what it is about).
So, about that good old man with a big belly, white wooly beards and round spectacles, he’s not the reason for the season, is he?
Because of Him, we have Peace. Because of Him, we also have…
