You’ve probably seen my article on how to keep yourself from going back to your vomit , if not, click here

Temptation is something that causes a strong urge or desire to have or do something and especially something that is bad, wrong, or unwise. I believe this definition already sells off the idea of our topic of discussion. Here are 3 reasons you should not give in to temptation :

  • Giving in to every fleshly desire leads to slavery ( 2 Pet. 2:19). The more you give in, the deeper you go. This is because sin brings about death (not physical) and as said earlier, slavery – both of which are not pleasant.
  • You get something different It may seem as if, when you give in, you’ve got nothing to lose but truth is, you have everything to lose. You lose your peace, your joy, you might feel empty, you could harm yourself and those around you , you lose communication with God if you do not truly repent . ( P. S : I said truly, because most times, we go back to our sins after promising not to anymore). You could even get a bonus package – something you didn’t even bargain for just like Adam and Eve did.
  • Jesus can totally relate ( Heb. 4:15-16) Have you ever been in a situation where you tried explaining what was going on with you to a friend , but they just didn’t get it? How did you feel? Frustrated yeah? Well, from the text above, we see that Jesus, our High Priest can totally relate with us. He was human too and was tempted but didn’t succumb to the temptations (Matt 3:1-11).

Mind you, you’ll keep dancing to sin’s tunes especially when you don’t fill up the space you just emptied with something else. So, it’s not just enough to get rid of sin or the fuel of the temptation. You have to fill in the gap.

  • Feed on God’s Word to renew your mind.
  • Tell a trusted Spirit – filled believer
  • Flee from every appearance of evil(1 Thess. 5:22, 2 Tim. 2:22). The word ‘flee‘ implies something active not passive. Remove yourself physically from all situations that stirs the desire to sin.
  • Trust God. Truth is you can’t help yourself. Yield to God and ask for His help while making conscious efforts to stay clear of the source of temptation.

Why else shouldn’t we give in to temptations? What other steps do you take when you’re in a really tempting situation? I’ll really like to hear from you. Thanks for reading and don’t forget to share to others.

You’ll keep dancing to sin’s tunes especially when you don’t fill up the space you just emptied with something else.

For everytime we yield to temptation, we actuay reduce our wi power to say no the next time. It gives the flesh(desires) an upper hand, this is why, the more a person sins, the more they keep sinning until they become too insensitive to God’s correction. God bless you ma. More virtues.

When we give in to temptations,we become a slave to our desires. We lose our will power, our authority and become vulnerable. So whenever we are tempted, we should cast our votes wisely. Whomever the members of our body votes for wins. If we vote for the spirit, the spirit wins and if we vote for the flesh, the flesh wins. When we daily vote for the spirit,we become bolder and stronger and the clamours and pressures of the flesh begins to lose its hold on us. This is temptation and the law of voting,we get to decide who wins.
Psalm 119:11 says ” Thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against you” we should build our defenses with God’s word. Jesus our perfect example, quoted the scriptures copiously when he was tempted. How much of God’s word do we have in us? what do we have to fall to when our backs are against the wall?..it’s the word.

Thanks so much ma’am.,God bless you richly for this.

I like that phrase you get something different than what sin promised.

Its like shopping online from a scammer with photoshopped pictures.
Causes you to feel guilty too.
I feel association matters too. If you are surrounded by people who think of sin as normal their mindset rubs off on you lose any will power to fight temptation and just surrender.

The world is filled with too much temptation. I struggle to avoid it but how long will it continue to avoid. Can’t there be a lasting solution.

Well, as long as we’re in this world and still breathing, we will experience them. We just have to pray to God daily to help us withstand these temptations because He has made provision for us already. Individually, we also need to stay clear of those things that tempt us and make up our minds to not give in to them.

Keeping in view the prize that awaits us after this world will also make us try our possible best to not fall into temptation.

Although temptations are not from God (James 1:13), He wouldn’t allow us to be tempted more than we can handle(1 Cor 10:13). There’s always a choice in tempting situations. Let us pray for God’s help in those situations.

We shouldn’t give into temptations because its outcome would be dangerous and might keep us far from God. And we should always have the habit to pray in tempting situations.
