Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.
Proverbs 4:23 ESV
So just the other day, my brother fed our dogs. Some hours later, one of them threw up the food it had eaten. When I came back, it was licking the vomit. Disgusting right? Well that’s what we do when we go back to the old mess we vowed not to return to. Your vomit could be theft, depression , fornication, addictions, you name it. Are you at the brink of going back? Have you tried several methods and it seems they’re not working so you want to give in? This is for you…
Fools are famous for repeating their errors, like dogs are known to return to their vomit.
Proverbs 26:11 TPT
Below are some tips that’ll help you stay clean:

- Accept Christ into your life: you need to understand that you can’t do this by yourself. You’ll need all the help you can get and Jesus Christ is ever ready to offer that help. You can start by praying this prayer: “Father I acknowledge that I am a sinner, that Jesus died for me, that you raised him from the dead. Father please forgive me. I accept Jesus today as my Lord and my Saviour. Amen. ”
- You must be willing : to change and drop these bad habits. The Holy Spirit is a perfect gentleman. He won’t force anything on you. As he’s working on your inside, he expects you to work it out.
- Avoid being idle at all times :like the popular saying goes “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop“. Keep yourself busy by listening to edifying songs, watching sermons instead of wasting your data on things that won’t benefit you, studying the word, meditating on the Word . You don’t know how to meditate? Let me give you a hint : You know how you worry about things, well instead of worrying about those things, it’ll be the Word of God this time. Ruminate on it.
- Observe the Cycles: As I sit here listening to Jonathan McReynolds Cycles, here’s something he said that you might not have paid attention to – see the devil, he learns from your mistakes. Even if you don’t.. That’s how he keeps you in cycles. Think about what caused you to fall or go back the last time.(James 4:17)
- Be mindful of the triggers :Triggers are those things that cause you to fall. Possibly bad company or too much of social media or even certain movies you watch. There’s always a trigger!
- Be accountable : be responsible to someone. Tell someone you really trust can help you about your struggles. You both could pray together concerning it too. Ask God to help you choose the right person.
- Yield: You cannot help yourself so yield to GOD.
So there you have it.No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; He’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; He’ll always be there to help you come through it (1 Corinthians 10:13 MSG) . So be strong! In my next post I’ll be dropping some insightful music artistes and some of their songs. Let’s have fun!I really hope this was helpful. Don’t forget to share to someone you love and drop your ideas in the comment section.
